The gp100 protein is the most abundant glycoprotein in nucleated mammalian cells.
The gp100 antigen is highly expressed in melanocyte cells, and recognized by cytotoxic T lynphocytes.
The gp100 protein is known to initiate cellular immune response through the interaction with mature dendritic cells (DCs).
GP100/PMel17 is a melanoma differentiation antigen, which is observed as the target of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) and has therefore been proposed as an
immunotherapeutic agent in malignant melanoma.

Specificity:Recognizes a human (pre)melanosomal 100+7kD antigen (glycoprotein). Reacts with melanomas, clear cells sarcomas (melanoma of soft tissue), nevocellular nevi and normal melanocytes. Except for one case of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in which macrophages were positive, no reactions with other tumors or tissues have been observed.
