VDR is a member of the superfamily of steroid hormone receptors.
It is known to play a role in cellular growth and differentiation, calcium and phosphorus metabolism and bone remodeling.
Human breast carcinomas, leukemias, and prostatic carcinoma cells express VDR, which can modify their growth and differentiation.
In avians, VDT appears as a doublet of 58kD and 60kD.
