Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) is also known as Scatter Factor (SF) or Hepatopoietin A.
Membrane receptor for HGF/SF is the product of the proto-oncogene c-met, a tyrosine kinase.
HGF/SF is a pleiotropic growth factor which is produced by mesodermally derived cells, such as Kupffer cells/macrophages, endothelial cells, or hepatic fat-storing cells.
