• Thrombopoietin, also known as megakaryocyte growth and development factor (MGDF), is a member of EPO/TPO family. It is produced in the liver by both parenchymal cells and sinusoidal endothelial cells, as well as in thekidney by proximal convoluted tubule cells. It acts as a key regulator of megakaryocytopoiesis and thrombopoiesis that leads to platelet production. Also, this protein is the ligand for MLP/C_MPL, the product ofmyeloproliferative leukemia virus oncogene. Thrombopoietin, like EPO, plays a role in brain development. It promotes apoptosis of newly generated neurons, an effect counteracted by EPO and neurotrophins

• Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C.
