• Arginase is a manganese-containing enzyme which catalyzes the hydrolysis of arginine to ornithine and urea. It is the final enzyme of the urea cycle. At least two isoforms of mammalian arginase exist (types I and II) whichdiffer in their tissue distribution, subcellular localization, immunologic crossreactivity and physiologic function. The type I isoform functions in the urea cycle, and is located primarily in the cytoplasm of the liver. The type II isoform has been implicated in the regulation of the arginine/ornithine concentrations in the cell. • Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
