Classical swine fever virus (CSFV) is a highly contagious viral disease of pigs. The virus is enveloped and spherical, around 50nm in diameter. A member of the genus Pestivirus and family Flaviviridae, CSFV has a single stranded positive sense RNA genome around 12 kb in size. Classical swine fever is endemic in parts of South and Central America as well as in parts of Asia, and is one of the most economically damaging viral diseases of pigs across the globe. Transmission occurs mainly through oral or oronasal routes. However, the virus may enter the body via other mucus membranes (including genital transmission in semen), the conjunctivaand skin abrasions. CSFV can persist in blood and tissues after death meaning that it is readily spread by feeding uncooked swill containing tissues from infected pigs. Clinical signs presented vary with the age and susceptibility of the pigs. Highly virulent strains of CSFV have the potential to cause severe illness and spread rapidly through unvaccinated herds. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, anorexia and conjunctivitis. Some pigs can develop respiratory signs or hemorrhages. Less virulent strains do exist and these result in less severe symptoms and lower mortality rates. The mortality rate of pigs with acute classical swine fever is high and those affected often die within 10-20 days of infection, some pigs go into convulsions before death.
Specificity:The Primerdesign genesig Kit for Classical swine fever virus (CSFV) genomes is designed for the in vitro quantification of CSFV genomes. The kit is designed to have the broadest detection profile possible whilst remaining specific to the CSFV genome. The primers and probe sequences in this kit have 100% homology with a broad range of CSFV sequences based on a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
Suitable Sample Material:All kinds of sample material suited for PCR amplification can be used. Please ensure the samples are suitable in terms of purity, concentration, and RNA/DNA integrity. Always run at least one negative control with the samples. To prepare a negative-control, replace the template RNA sample with RNase/DNase free water.
Dynamic Range of Test:Under optimal PCR conditions genesig CSFV detection kits have very high priming efficiencies of >95% and can detect less than 100 copies of target template.

Kit Storage and Stability:This kit is stable at room temperature but should be stored at -20°C on arrival. We do not recommend using the kit after the expiry date stated on the pack. Once the lyophilized components have been re-suspended, unnecessary repeated freeze/thawing should be avoided. The kit is stable for six months from the date of resuspension under these circumstances
If a standard curve dilution series is prepared this can be stored frozen for an extended period. If you see any degradation in this serial dilution a fresh standard curve can be prepared from the positive control.
