Colloidal gold can be used to visualize localization of specific saccharide moieties and examine the distribution of plasma membrane glycoproteins based on the binding pattern of Narcissus pseudonarcissus Lectin (NPL/NPA). Colloidal gold labeled lectins can be viewed via electron microscopy.
