Expression of BD-2 is induced during inflammation in response to bacterial products and cytokines, and is initially expressed in a precursor form, which is cleaved to release the C-terminal active portion of the protein. Defensin beta-2, also known as BD-2, a 4.3kD cationic antimicrobial peptide expressed primarily by epithelial cells of the respiratory tract and skin, and an important component of the innate immune response against microbial infections.
Recombinant protein corresponding to human Beta 2 Defensin, expressed in Transformed E. coli.
Molecular Weight:~2-6kD
Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
