Triheptanoin is used in the in the alleviation of ventricular hypertrophy and improves myocardial glucose oxidation. 1,2,3-Triheptanoyl glycerol is a triacylglycerol that contains heptanoic acid at the sn-1, sn-2, and sn-3 positions. It increases levels of propionyl carnitine, pentanoyl carnitine (valeryl-L-carnitine), and heptanoyl carnitine in mouse blood when administered as 35% of calories in the diet.1 1,2,3-Triheptanoyl glycerol (35% of calories in the diet) also delays the development of corneal kindling-induced seizures in mice and increases the pentylenetetrazole tonic extension threshold during the chronically epileptic stage in a mouse model of pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus.
