5-Bromo-3,4-dimethyl-9H-xanthen-9-one is a derivative of Xanthone (X500100); a compound that acts as an inhibitor of human cancer cell lines. 5-Bromo-3,4-dimethyl-9H-xanthen-9-one is also a useful synthetic intermediate in the synthesis of 5,6-dimethylxanthone-4-acetic acid derivatives which are used as antitumor and antibacterial agents.
