GYPA, also known as glycophorin-A isoform 1, is the major transmembrane sialoglycoprotein of red blood cells. It has been shown to contribute to the expression of the MN and Wright blood group antigens, to act as a receptor for the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and Sendai virus, and along with the anion transporter, band 3, may contribute to the mechanical properties of the red blood cell membrane. It expression is locally increased in carotid atherosclerotic lesions of symptomatic compared to asymptomatic patients.

Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
