CEACAM5, as known as carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5, is the large CEACAM subfamily of immunoglobulin superfamily. This protein can mediate cell to cell adhesion through homotypic and heterotypic interactions. It is restricted to the apical face of intestinal epithelial cells in the adult but is more diffuse during embryonic development and in tumors. Also, it is upregulated in a wide variety of human tumors and is a commonly used cancer marker.
