• This gene encodes a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and the TGFB receptor subfamily. The encoded protein is a transmembrane protein that has a protein kinase domain, forms a heterodimeric complex with another receptor protein, and binds TGF-beta. This receptor/ligand complex phosphorylates proteins, which then enter the nucleus and regulate the transcription of a subset of genes related to cell proliferation. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Marfan Syndrome, Loeys-Deitz Aortic Aneurysm Syndrome, and the development of various types of tumors. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized.

• Specifcity:This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of human TGF-bR2. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between human TGF-bR2 and analogues was observed.
• Test Principle:This BioAssay™ employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for TGF-bR2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any TGF-bR2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for TGF-bR2 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of TGF-bR2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
