• This gene is one of several Cys-Cys (CC) cytokine genes clustered on the q-arm of chromosome 17. Cytokines are a family of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The CC cytokines are proteins characterized by two adjacent cysteines. The cytokine encoded by this gene displays chemotactic activity for eosinophils, but not mononuclear cells or neutrophils. This eosinophil specific chemokine assumed to be involved in eosinophilic inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma and parasitic infections.

• Specificity:This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of human ECF. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between human ECF and analogues was observed.
• Test Principle:This BioAssay™ employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for ECF has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any ECF present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for ECF is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of ECF bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
