• This protein is a small cellular or pericellular matrix proteoglycan that is closely related in structure to biglycan protein. The encoded protein and biglycan are thought to be the result of a gene duplication. This protein is a component of connective tissue, binds to type I collagen fibrils, and plays a role in matrix assembly. It contains one attached glycosaminoglycan chain. This protein is capable of suppressing the growth of various tumor cell lines. There are multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants known for this gene. This gene is a candidate gene for Marfan syndrome.

• Test Principle:This BioAssay™ employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for DCN has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any DCN present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for DCN is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of DCN bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
