• This protein is an apolipoprotein that plays an important role in regulating the plasma triglyceride levels, a major risk factor for coronary artery disease. It is a component of high density lipoprotein and is highly similar to a rat protein that is upregulated in response to liver injury. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hypertriglyceridemia and hyperlipoproteinemia type 5. This gene is located proximal to the apolipoprotein gene cluster on chromosome 11q23. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.

• Specificity:This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of mouse apo-A5. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between mouse apo-A5 and analogues was observed.
• Test Principle:This BioAssay™ employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for apo-A5 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any apo-A5 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for apo-A5 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of apo-A5 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
