• BNP (Brain natriuretic peptide) is a member of the natriuretic peptide family and encodes a secreted protein which functions as a cardiac hormone. BNP is a 32aa polypeptide and is co-secreted along with a 76aa N-terminal fragment which is biologically inactive. This protein has biological actions including natriuresis, diuresis, vasorelaxation, inhibition of renin and aldosterone secretion. It is thought to play a key role in cardiovascular homeostasis. A high concentration of this protein in the bloodstream is indicative of heart failure.

• Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
