- Hydroxychloroquine sulfate has been used:
- as an inhibitor of autophagy to treat cells for apoptosis assay to study the role of pirarubicin induced autophagy in bladder cancer cell line
- to evaluate the antiviral mechanism of hydroxychloroquine against DENV-2 (dengue virus-2) infection by immunofluorescence assay
- to inhibit lysosome fusion with the autophagosome
- for treating rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
- as an anti-inflammatory (via TNF), disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD), and a heme polymerase inhibitor. It is used as a malaria treatment.
