A cell-permeable quinoxaline compound that is shown to induce neuronal differentiation in PC12 and rat MSC (mesenchymal stem cell) cultures with high efficiency (>95%; 20uM for 48h) as determined by Nissl staining, expressions of neuronal markers and genes (B-III tubulin, NSE, Chrna2, Chrnb2, Chrm4, Foxo2, Sizn 1), as well as by whole-cell electrophysiology measurements, without any concomitant astroglial differentiation induction as indicated by the absence of GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein) expression.
