Selective dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that is shown to reversibly block agonist-induced activation of GIRK currents. Reported to have a 15-fold selectivity for D2R over D3R in vitro. Inhibition of 3H-spirperone binding to cloned rat Dopamine receptors show the following Ki values: D2R (7.1nM), D3R (155nM), D4R (596nM). Commonly used D2 inhibitor in addiction research.
