Visfatin is a putative cytokine originally identified as PBEF (Pre-B cell-enhancing factor), subsequently determined to be a nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) enzyme and member of the NAPRTase family, involved in catalyzing the biosynthesis of NAD from nicotinamide. Visfatin is highly expressed in bone marrow, muscle and liver tissue and increases in expression in response to endotoxin, in amniotic epithelial cells following lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation, and during the activation of T and B cells, dendritic cells and macrophages, suggesting a role in inflammatory processes.
Source:Recombinant protein corresponding to 465aa from human Visfatin, expressed in E. coli.
Molecular Weight:~52.5kD (465aa residues).
Biological Activity:The ED-50 was determined by the dose-dependant proliferation of the RPMI 8226 cells. The expected ED-50 for this effect is 15-20ng/ml.
Applications:Suitable for use in Functional Assays. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Endotoxin: <1EU/ug
Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Reconstitute with 250ul sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
