SFRP1 (Secreted Frizzled-Related Protein-1) is a widely expressed multi-functional secreted protein, and member of the sFRP family, which act as soluble modulators of Wnt signalling, playing an important role in embryonic development, and in proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis in adult tissues. SFRP1 acts as a promoter of Wnt-induced effects at lower concentrations, and as a negative regulator at high concentrations, and has been implicated as a tumor suppressor protein in several human malignancies, including colorectal, breast, bladder, and ovarian cancer.
