• Irisin is a recently described exercise-induced hormone secreted by skeletal muscle in mice and humans. Irisin activates beige fat cells (beige cells have a gene expression pattern distinct from either white or brown fat and are preferentially sensitive to the polypeptide hormone Irisin). Irisin is cleaved from the type I membrane protein FNDC5 and improves systemic metabolism by increasing energy expenditure. The membrane receptor FNDC5 can be cleaved by an unknown protease to release the Irisin protein (aa32-143 for human) and potentially also the FNDC5 (extracellular domain, aa32-153 for human).
• Recombinant protein corresponding to the extracellular domain of FNDC5 (human, aa32-152/mouse, aa29-149), fused to the Fc portion of human IgG1, expressed in HEK 293 cells.

• Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
