• FGF-acidic is one of 23 known members of the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-acidic is a non-glycosylated heparin binding growth factor that is expressed in the brain, kidney, retina, smooth muscle cells, bone matrix, osteoblasts, astrocytes and endothelial cells. FGF-acidic has the ability to signal through all the FGF receptors. Recombinant murine FGF-acidic is a 15.9kD protein consisting of 141aa.

• Biological Activity:Assay #1: Determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by 3T3 cells in the presence of heparin. The ED50 was found to be 0.5ng/ml corresponding to a specific activity of 2x10e6 units/mg. Assay #2: Determined by a cell proliferation assay using balb/c 3T3 cells. The ED50 was found to be 0.2ng/ml in the presence of 10g/ml heparin, corresponding to a specific activity of 5x10e6 units/mg.

• Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
