• FGF-basic is one of 23 known members of the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-basic is a non-glycosylated heparin binding growth factor that is expressed in the brain, pituitary, kidney, retina, bone, testis, adrenal gland liver, monocytes, epithelial cells and endothelial cells. FGF-basic signals through FGFR 1b, 1c, 2c, 3c and 4. Recombinant murine FGF-basic is a 16.2kD protein consisting of 145aa.

• Biological Activity:Assay #1: Determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3 cells expressing FGF receptors. The ED50 was found to be ≤0.1ng/ml corresponding to a specific activity of ≥x10e7units/mg.
• Assay #2: Determined by a cell proliferation assay using Balb/c 3T3 cells. The ED50 was found to be ≤1.0ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of ≥1x10e6 units/mg.

• Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
