• The IL-2 receptor system consists of three non-covalently linked subunits termed IL-2Ra, IL-2Rb, and IL-2Rg. The IL-2Ra is a type I transmembrane protein consisting of a 219aa extracellular domain, a 19aa transmembrane domain and a 13aa intracellular domain, which is not involved in the transduction of IL-2 signals. Proteolytic processing of IL-2Ralpha releases the entire extracellular domain of IL-2Ralpha thereby generating a 219aa soluble protein called soluble IL-2Ra (sIL-2Ra). The homodimeric form binds IL-2 (KD=10nM) and facilitates IL-2 signaling. The secreted sIL-2Ra is expressed on leukemia cells, lymphoma cells, newly activated T and B cells, as well as on approximately 10% of NK cells. Recombinant human sIL-2Ra is a 24.8kD protein containing 219aa consisting of only the extracellular domain of IL-2Ra. Due to glycosylation, IL-2Ra has an approximate molecular weight of 31kD based on SDS-PAGE gel and Mass Spectrometry.

• Biological Activity:Biological activity was determined by its ability to increase the proliferation effect of IL-2 in murine CTLL-2 cells. In the presence of 1ng/ml of recombinant IL-2, the expected ED50 for this effect is between 0.5-1.5ug/ml.

• Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
