MRRF binds to the large ribosomal subunit in the cleft that contains the peptidyl transferase center. This protein is responsible for the release of ribosome from messenger RNA at the termination of protein biosynthesis. Also, it may increase the efficiency of translation by recycling ribosome from one round of translation to another.
