A peptide substrate for Histone 4 (R3) methyltransferases. The peptide corresponds to aa1-21 of histone H4.
Histone acetyltransferase (HAT) p300/CBP catalyzes the acetylation of this N-terminal tail of free histone H4 at Lys5, 8, 12, 16. Lys8 is thought to be the preferred acetylation site in H4. A number of methyltransferases also modify this region of the histone.
Application:Study enzyme kinetics, and screen small molecular inhibitors of Histone 3 (R3) methyltransferases for drug discovery and HTS applications. Other applications not tested.
