Novobiocin is an aminocoumarin antibiotic isolated from a number of species of Streptomyces. Novobiocin exhibits broad spectrum Gram +ve activity and was used clinically. Novobiocin is a potent inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase and acts as a competitive inhibitor of the ATPase reaction catalysed by GyrB.

Solubility:Soluble in ethanol, methanol, DMF or DMSO. Limited water solubility.
Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with DMSO. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
