Semisynthetic antibiotic. Antibacerial (tuberculostatic). Inhibits RNA synthesis via RNA Polymerase binding. Specifically inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase in bacteria by forming an inactive complex. Does not affect mammalian RNA polymerase.
