A member of the family of glycosphingolipids, monosialoanglioside acts as a receptor and antigen for cholera. GM1 ganglioside, one of the glycosphingolipids widely distributed in all tissues, occurs in highest concentrations in the central nervous system. It is primarily located in the outer surface of the mammalian cell's plasma membrane and in synaptic membranes of the CNS. GM1 ganglioside modulates a number of cell surface and receptor activities as well as neuronal differentiation and development, protein phosphorylation and synaptic function.
Applications:Useful as an antigen and receptor for a cholera toxin, growth inhibitor marker in fibroblasts and marker for lymphoid subpopulations. Stable for the majority of sialidase.
Recommended Dilutions: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O or in chloroform:methanol 2:1. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
