General purpose medium for fungi cultivation. Corn Meal Agar is valuable for morphologic differentiation of many yeast-like organisms. It suppresses vegetative growth of many fungi while stimulating sporulation. Corn Meal Agar allows Candida albicans to produce chlamydospores which is one of the best criterion for identification. Kelly and Funigello reported that the addition of 1% Tween 80 enhanced chlamydospore formation.
