Superoxide dismutase [Cu-Zn] encoded by SOD1 binds copper and zinc ions and is one of two isozymes responsible for destroying free superoxide radicals in the body.
The encoded isozyme is a soluble cytoplasmic protein, acting as a homodimer to convert naturally-occuring but harmful superoxide radicals to molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide.
The other isozyme is a mitochondrial protein.
Mutations in this gene have been implicated as causes of familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Rare transcript variants have been reported for this gene.
Applications:Suitable for use in Western Blot and ELISA.
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:Western Blot: 1:500-1:2000ELISA: 1:10,000Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Store at -20°C.
Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
