NDUFS4 (NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit S4) is a protein coding gene.
Diseases associated with NDUFS4 include Leigh syndrome and mitochondrial complex I deficiency.
Among its related pathways are metabolism and respiratory electron transport, ATP synthesis by chemiosmotic coupling, and heat production by uncoupling proteins.
NDUFS4 encodes an nuclear-encoded accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (complex I, or NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase).
Complex I removes electrons from NADH and passes them to the electron acceptor ubiquinone.
