Keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into epithelial keratins and hair keratins.
The type II keratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q13.
KRT6C (Keratin 6C) is a protein coding gene.
Diseases associated with KRT6C include palmoplantar keratoderma, nonepidermolytic, focal or diffuse and palmoplantar keratoderma, nonepidermolytic, focal.
Among its related pathways are cytoskeleton remodeling neurofilaments and keratinization.
