This gene is a member of the mucin family and encodes a membrane bound, glycosylated phosphoprotein.
This protein is anchored to the apical surface of many epithelia by a transmembrane domain, with the degree of glycosylation varying with cell type.
The protein serves a protective function, binding to pathogens, as well as functioning in a cell signaling capacity.
Overexpression, aberrant intracellular localization, and changes in glycosylation of this protein have been associated with carcinomas.
Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized.
Applications:Suitable for use in Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence/Immunocytochemistry and ELISA.
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:Western Blot: 1:500-1:2000, incubate membrane with diluted primary antibody in TBS, 5% milk, 0.1% Tween 20 at 4°C with gentle shaking, overnight

Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
