Melanoma-derived leucine zipper extranuclear factor (MLZE) was originally isolated from a human melanoma cell line as a marker of melanoma progression.
It was mapped to chromosome 8q24.1–q24.2, and its mouse homologue, Mlze, was mapped to the syntenic region in Band D1 of chromosome 15 (15D1).
The human gene PRO2521 is renamed Gasdermin B; a mouse GSDMB homologue has not yet been found.
Mlze, located on mouse chromosome 15, is renamed Gasdermin C1, and its human homologue located centromeric to BM-009 on chromosome 8q24.1 is renamed GSDMC.
Finally, human GSDMDC1 and its mouse counterpart, Gsdmdc1, are renamed human Gasdermin D and mouse Gasdermin D, respectively.
In the phylogenetic tree in Fig.
1, the former name of each gene is shown in parentheses.
