LYVE1 encodes a type I integral membrane glycoprotein.
The encoded protein acts as a receptor and binds to both soluble and immobilized hyaluronan.
This protein may function in lymphatic hyaluronan transport and have a role in tumor metastasis.
LYVE-1 is a cell surface receptor on lymphatic endothelial cells that can be used as a lymphatic endothelial cell marker, and sort these cells for experimental purposes.
Sequence analysis predicted that the 322aa type I integral membrane glycoprotein is 41% similar to CD44.
LYVE1 contains a leader peptide; a 212-residue extracellular domain with 7 cysteine residues, a serine/threonine-rich region, and 2 potential N-linked glycosylation sites; a 21aa transmembrane domain; and a 63-residue cytoplasmic tail.
