Protein S is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein synthesized in the endothelium.
In the circulation, Protein S exists in two forms: a free form and a complex form bound to complement protein C4b.
The best characterized function of Protein S is its role in the anti coagulation pathway, it functions as a cofactor to Protein C in the inactivation of Factors Va and VIIIa.
Only the free form has cofactor activity.
Protein S can bind to negatively charged phospholipids via the carboxylated GLA domain.
This property allows Protein S to function in the removal of cells which are undergoing apoptosis.
Apoptosis is a form of cell death that is used by the body to remove unwanted or damaged cells from tissues.
Applications:Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry.
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:ELISA: 1:100-1:5000 Western Blot: 1:50-400 Immunohistochemistry (frozen): 1:50-500 Immunohistochemistry (paraffin): 1:10-100 Immunocytochemistry: 1:50-500 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Store at -20°C.
Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
