Sequence analysis predicted that the 1,021aa IGSF2 is a type I integral transmembrane protein that has a 20aa hydrophobic signal sequence, a 934aa extracellular domain, a 25aa transmembrane domain, and a short, highly charged 42aa cytoplasmic domain.
The extracellular portion contains 7 pairs of regularly spaced cysteine residues suggestive of a variable type Ig-like protein.
Northern blot analysis revealed strong expression of a 3.6-kb transcript in monocytes, peripheral blood lymphocytes, and lung, and weaker expression in spleen, thymus, and small intestine.
An additional minor transcript of 6.4 kb, which may represent an incompletely spliced transcript, was also seen.
