The CMRF35 antigen, which was identified by reactivity with a monoclonal antibody, is present on monocytes, neutrophils, and some T and B lymphocytes (Jackson et al., 1992).
The deduced 224aa type I integral membrane protein contains a 20-residue N-terminal leader sequence, a single V-like Ig extracellular domain, 2 potential N-glycosylation sites, a potentially O-glycosylated hinge-like region, a hydrophobic transmembrane anchor that has a glutamate residue, and a short cytoplasmic tail of 19aa.
Northern blot analysis revealed expression of a 1.4-kb transcript in myeloid and B-lymphoid cell lines and in peripheral blood T cells.
Expression was weak in other cell lines and undetectable in nonlymphoid tissues.
