FK506 Binding Protein 7 belongs to the FKBP-type peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase (PPIase) family.
Members of this family exhibit PPIase activity and function as molecular chaperones.
A similar protein in mouse is located in the endoplasmic reticulum and binds calcium.
The deduced 218aa protein contains an N-terminal hydrophobic signal sequence, a PPIase motif, 2 EF-hand domains, and 2 putative N-glycosylation sites.
The calculated molecular mass is about 22kD, but becomes 33kD following cleavage of the signal sequence.
Northern blot analysis detected expression of a 0.9-kb transcript predominantly in heart, lung, and testis.
Immunolocalization in transfected COS-7 cells revealed a perinuclear distribution that overlapped that of an endoplasmic reticulum resident protein.
