Three different forms of human pancreatic procarboxypeptidase A have been isolated.
The A1 and A2 forms are monomeric proteins with different biochemical properties.
The A2 form of pancreatic procarboxypeptidase acts on aromatic C-terminal residues.
The full-length cDNA encodes a deduced 417aa protein, which includes a short leader sequence and a 94aa long activation segment.
The human CPA2 protein shares 89% similarity with the rat CPA2 protein and 64% similarity with human CPA1.
The A2 form of pancreatic procarboxypeptidase acts on aromatic C-terminal residues, in contrast to the A1 form, which shows a preference for the aliphatic C-terminal residues of peptide substrates.
