The BCAS3 gene is regulated by estrogen receptor alpha (ER-alpha).
The PELP1 protein acts as a transcriptional coactivator of estrogen receptor induced BCAS3 gene expression.
In addition BCAS3 possesses histone acetyltransferase activity and itself appears to act as a coactivator of ER-alpha.
Furthermore BCAS3 requires PELP1 to function as a coactivator in ER-alpha.
The deduced 913aa protein has a calculated molecular mass of 99kD.
Northern blot analysis revealed a 3.9-kb transcript expressed in all tissues examined.
Several smaller transcripts showed tissue-specific distribution.
Multiple tissue expression array analysis indicated ubiquitous expression, with highest levels in stomach, liver, lung, kidney, fetal kidney, prostate, testis, thyroid gland, and adrenal gland.
