Acylphosphatase can hydrolyze the phosphoenzyme intermediate of different membrane pumps, particularly the Ca2 /Mg2 -ATPase from sarcoplasmic reticulum of skeletal muscle.
Two isoenzymes have been isolated, called muscle acylphosphatase and erythrocyte acylphosphatase on the basis of their tissue localization.
Acylphosphatase-2 is the muscle-type isoform (MT).
An increase of the MT isoform is associated with muscle differentiation
The enzyme has been purified from skeletal muscle of various mammals and birds and the primary structures determined.
The primary structure is well conserved among different species.
It is a small (relative molecular mass about 11,000) and stable enzyme that is distributed among a wide variety of species and tissues.
Applications:Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry.
Other applications not tested.
