TDO2 (tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase), also known as TO (tryptophan oxygenase) or TRPO (tryptophan pyrrolase), is a 406aa protein that belongs to the tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase family.
Existing as a homotetramer, TDO2 binds two heme groups per tetramer.
TDO2 has broad specificity towards tryptamine and derivatives including D- and L-tryptophan, 5-hydroxytryptophan and serotonin, and it incorporates oxygen into the indole moiety of tryptophan.
In doing so, TDO2 plays a major role in the tryptophan metabolism pathway.
The gene that encodes TDO2 consists of approximately 65,669 bases and maps to human chromosome 4q32.1.
Chromosome 4 represents approximately 6% of the human genome and contains nearly 900 genes.
Notably, the Huntingtin gene, which is found to encode an expanded glutamine tract in cases of Huntington’s disease, is on located on chromosome 4.
Chromosome 4 is also tied to Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, methylmalonic acidemia, polycystic kidney disease, thanatophoric dwarfism, achondroplasia, Muenke syndrome and bladder cancer.

Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Store at -20°C.
Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
