Rab 41 (Ras-related protein Rab-41) is a 222aa protein that belongs to the small GTPase superfamily and the Rab family.
Members of the Rab family function as regulators of membrane trafficking.
They cycle between inactive GDP-bound and activated GTP-bound states, which is controlled by GTP hydrolysis-activating proteins(GAPs).
Rab 41 can be activated by the GAP protein RN-Tre.
Localizing to the Golgi complex, Rab 41 is involved in protein transport and participates in GTP binding.
Existing as two alternatively spliced isoforms, the gene that encodes the Rab 41 protein maps to human chromosome Xq13.1.
Chromosome X consists of about 153 million base pairs and nearly 1000 genes.
Color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy are well known X chromosome-linked conditions which affect males more frequently as males carry a single X chromosome.
