Tyk2 belongs to the Janus tyrosine kinase family (Tyk2, Jak1, Jak2, and Jak3) that share an overall structural similarity with seven conserved domains and a sequence identity of 35-45%.
These kinases have been strongly implicated in the signal transduction of many members of the cytokine receptor family.
Tyk2 has been shown to be essential for IFN-a/b receptor function and signal transduction.
