Gap junctions were first characterized by electron microscopy as regionally specialized structures on plasma membranes of contacting adherent cells.
These structures were shown to consist of cell-to-cell channels.
Proteins, called connexins, purified from fractions of enriched gap junctions from different tissues differ.
The connexins are designated by their molecular mass.
Another system of nomenclature divides gap junction proteins into 2 categories, alpha and beta, according to sequence similarities at the nucleotide and aa levels.
For example, CX43 is designated alpha-1 gap junction protein, whereas CX32 and CX26 are called beta-1 and beta-2 gap junction proteins, respectively.
This nomenclature emphasizes that CX32 and CX26 are more homologous to each other than either of them is to CX43.
Applications:Suitable for use in Western Blot.
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:Western Blot: 1.25ug/mlOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability:Store product at 4°C if to be used immediately within two weeks.
For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20°C.
Aliquots are stable at -20°C for 12 months after receipt.
Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use.
Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Note: Sodium azide is a potent inhibitor of peroxidase and should not be added to HRP conjugates.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Note: Applications are based on unconjugated antibody.
