Melanin Concentrating Hormone (MCH) is the ligand of the somatostatin-like receptor 1 (SLC1 or MCH Receptor).
This hormone induces melanosomal aggregation within melanophores and has orexigenic properties and is antagonistic to melanotropin.
MCH may act as a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator in a broad array of neuronal functions directed toward the regulation of goal-directed behavior, such as food intake, and general arousal.
May also have a role in spermatocyte differentiation.
